Armature Creation

Stop motion animation is so tactile and physical. I felt my character designs needed to embody this handmade and sculpted quality. Each character is influenced and inspired by their environment; the butcher with his piggy face, the dough like softness of the baker and the candlestick maker's downwards drawn head and features like a drop of wax.

My armatures were made from a wire base which was sculpted onto with hard drying clay, leaving joints exposed for movement. Each character was rendered with liquid latex to mimic a fleshy skin and then painted with acrylic paints.
